Borstad Associates Ltd. - Environmental Impact

We have undertaken many environmental impact studies, including detection and quantification of industrial and sewage effluents into receiving waters, detection of oil slicks, mapping vegetation in reclaimed mining areas, and urban development among many. Also, we have designed a site to provide water quality information on the west coast of Canada to the aquaculture, fisheries and oceanography sectors.

Multispectral Mapping of Effluents and Spills

	Pulp Mill Effluent Mapping This image is a near true colour mosaic of nine multispectral lines acquired over Prince George. The river areas were classified to highlight pulp mill effluent in the Fraser River.
	Sewage Discharge Mapping using Rhodamine Dye This map of the discharge of a sewage treatment plant into a river was made using multispectral remote sensing from a small aircraft.
	Mapping Oil Spills The company has undertaken a number of oil spill-related projects, involving the acquisition of aerial multispectral imagery after a spill,. mapping of oil slicks, and damage assessment.

Water Quality

	Monitoring Water Quality in the Coastal Zone Calculated Fluorescence Line Height image of a section of the coast at Ramsgate, England.
	Thermal/Nuclear Thermal cooling plume from the South Ukraine Nuclear Power plant at Enerhodar, Ukraine. This is the biggest nuclear power plant in Europe, situated on the south shore of the Kakhovka Reservoir. The image is a composite of the Landsat TM thermal band in pseudo-colour and bands 3,2,1 as true colour.
	Turbidity Patterns in the Bay of Campeche (Mexico) False colour composite CZCS image of the Tabasco-Campeche coast at the beginning of the dry season, and at the end of the Nortes (winds from the north) showing river plumes, and re-suspended bottom material. Land areas are shown in black, clouds in white.
