Effluent Mapping Using Airborne Digital Imagery

Three pulp and paper mills near Prince George, British Columbia discharge effluent from their operations into the Fraser River. The image below is a mosaic of 9 separate flight lines we acquired on September 15, 1993 for the Fraser River Action Plan of Environment Canada.

The land areas are depicted in true-colour, and the river areas are superimposed with a pseudo-colour classification which highlights the effluents. The separation between the clear (blue) waters of the Nechako River, entering from the west, is still visible in enhanced imagery 20 km south of the city.
